Smoking: Smoking causes swelling in the throat and affects good breathing. And it has been shown that smokers are more likely to smoke. Have you taken up smoking? Or started smoking again? Do you use lots of scented candles or chemical air fresheners?

You’ve got enlarged tonsils or swollen adenoids: Snoring occurs when your breathing airway becomes smaller as you sleep. This shrinking of your airway when you sleep means it becomes harder for your body to breathe and the air flow is interrupted. This often causes the palate or uvula to vibrate and make the classic snoring noise. If you have enlarged tonsils or adenoids this can be the cause of the restricted airway and can occur after infections or repeated tonsillitis.

Snoring causes solution: Take antibiotics to clear up current infection or a surgical procedure to remove tonsils or adenoids.

You’ve gained weight: If you’ve put on a lot of weight recently then you could very well find that you’ve started snoring. Research has shown that if you weigh 20 % above your ideal weight (BMI) then you are likely to snore as a result. This is because an increase in weight will tend to add tissue around the throat. This then causes a constriction on your airways as you sleep.

Snoring causes solution: Lose some weight by exercising and eating fewer calories.

There are a whole of allergies such as hay fever and asthma. Allergies can irritate your throat and nose and bring on snoring this way. Giving your room an air out and washing your sheets regularly is recommended.
